Collaborations with the Natural World is an experiential immersion into therapeutic relationship with the natural world. This training will inspire, deepen and transform your relationship to yourself, your work and ultimately to the natural world! Through a combination of your own explorations in nature, along with didactic presentation, discussion, and the weaving of practical application, you will leave with:
- A basic understanding of the core principles of nature-based therapy
- An overview of the field of wilderness therapy and the different ways that it is being practiced
- Many practical tools, exercises and interventions that you can immediately utilize with clients
- Theory and practice in creating relevant, nature-based interventions for specific therapeutic goals
- Lived experience and practice of what it means to collaborate with the natural world
- Inspiration and clarity for your next steps in collaborating with the natural world as healer
Curriculum Content will include:

- Sensory awareness
- Mindfulness in nature
- Adventure as metaphor
- Ceremony and ritual
- Expressive arts practices in the natural world
- Group initiatives
- Conversations with the natural world
- Explicit support to incorporate tools into clinical settings and healing goals

*Note: We use the term NATURE-BASED for our trainings, because the content and practices you will engage in are steeped in connection with the natural world, and are an eclectic mix of information and interventions that come from the fields of WILDERNESS THERAPY, ADVENTURE THERAPY, OUTDOOR EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION, ECOPSYCHOLOGY and WILDERNESS QUEST work.

Katie Asmus, MA, LPC, BMP, is a Counselor, Life Coach, Educator, Mentor , Workshop Facilitator, and founder of Namasté Healing Arts Center, LLC, a multi-dimensional therapeutic and educationally-based organization incorporating Wilderness and Body-Centered Psychotherapies.
Katie began working in the field of outdoor experiential education in 1991, and during her Master Degree studies in Somatic Psychotherapy: Dance Movement Therapy she soon discovered opportunities to bridge the fields of Somatic and Wilderness Therapies, culminating in writing her MA thesis on Teaching Outdoor Adventure Educators to Recognize and work with Emotional Trauma through Body-centered Interventions. For the past 13 years, she has continued offering Somatic Trauma training in a variety of contexts around the world.
Katie became involved in Naropa University’s MA Wilderness Therapy program at its onset, acting in the role of Assistant Director until 2008, and has continued teaching classes as an adjunct faculty member through the present day. In addition, Katie has trained hundreds of students, therapists, educators and life coaches to collaborate with the natural world through her affiliations with AEE, TAPG, Prescott College, Peak Experience, Earth-based Institute, Outdoor Leadership Training Seminars, and her own organization, Namaste Healing Arts.
Throughout her career, Katie has led hundreds of experiential wilderness and Nature-based programs from a few hours up to 30 days in length through such organizations as: The American Youth Foundation, Outward Bound, The Women’s Wilderness Institute, YMCA, Life Renewal Journeys, Family Quest of Colorado, The Naropa University, Peak Experience, Earth Based Institute, Outdoor Leadership Training Seminars, and of course, Namaste Healing Arts.
Katie is an avid learner, creator, manifestor and lover of life! One of her main passions is supporting others in tapping into their own innate wisdom and connection to the natural world in support of greater health and healing on the planet.
